Solent Concert Band Tour the USA

In August 1978, under the auspices of Data Card Corporation, the Solent Youth Concert Band made an exciting and memorable tour of the United States of America that lasted for three weeks. The first concert was in Paramus, New Jersey, on the east coast, followed by concerts in Minnesota, where Data Card headquarters were located.

During the tour, the band visited many locations across the USA, including Denver, Colorado and Los Angeles in California. The latter included a concert at the world-famous Disneyland and another at UCLA, the University of California at Los Angeles. The band spent three weeks travelling across the States, from the east to the west coast, by coach and aeroplane.

Wherever the band played, they never ceased to be impressed with the way the American audiences cheered and responded so enthusiastically to their music. To top it all, on their last day in the USA, the Band were taken to recording studios in Los Angeles…Their task? To record a whole album in less than three hours or miss their return flight!

Happily, the Band rose to the challenge and completed the album titled "A Championship Brass Band from England" (On United States Tour), and still got to the airport on time!
